Following behind the rest of the developer beta releases, macOS Tahoe 26.4 has caught up with the distribution of its third build for testing.
On Monday, Apple started its third round of developer betas for its operating systems, including iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4,watchOS 26.4, tvOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4. While macOS Tahoe 26.4 wasn't supplied at the time, Apple did bring it out on Tuesday instead.
The third macOS Tahoe 26.4 developer beta follows the second from February 23, and the first from February 16.
- macOS Tahoe 26.4 build 3 is 25E5223i, replacing 25E5218f
There is no official explanation for the late release, however it is probable that Apple wanted to minimize code leaks ahead of its introduction of the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro lines. There is also the prospect of the MacBook Neo, which should in theory arrive on Wednesday.
AppleInsider and Apple strongly advise that users don't install beta operating systems or beta software onto what they deem "mission-critical" or primary-use hardware. Instead, they should retain backups of their data and try to use secondary hardware that isn't as essential to maintain.
For general users wanting a less risky experience, Apple typically brings out a public beta version of its updates shortly after the developer counterpart. A more battle-hardened version of the update, with potentially fewer bugs or issues, it is the version that interested members of the public should try, not the developer build.
