After one person passed away and after dozens more were injured, Casely has reannounced a recall of its MagSafe-compatible power bank.
Back in April 2025, Casely and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) published a recall of the 5,000mAh Power Pods wireless. More than 429,000 units were recalled, following 51 incidents of the products "overheating, expanding, or catching fire," ultimately causing burns.
A year later, the same recall has been reissued, as 28 additional incidents have occurred. "The recalled power banks pose a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards to consumers," says the USCPSC.
Casely's defective power banks have proven to be life-threateningly dangerous, with a New Jersey woman even passing away after experiencing severe burns.
In February 2026, Casely's power bank also caught fire and exploded on a plane, causing first-degree burns.
The defective Casely Power Pods 5000mAh portable MagSafe charger can be identified by the model number E33A on the back, and "Casely" engraved on the front side of the device. Units sold from 2022 through 2024 on the Casely website are part of the recall.
Casely is offering replacement units as a remedy to the situation. To receive a replacement, users will need to fill out a form on the manufacturer's website.
Those seeking a replacement will need to write "Recalled" on the battery pack in permanent marker and submit a photo with the phrase visible. A second photo, where the E33A model number is shown, should be submitted as well.
Owners of the Casely 5,000mAh Power Pods battery packs being recalled are instructed to dispose of them by contacting a facility that handles lithium-ion batteries. The battery packs should not be used or thrown away with regular household waste, as there's a significant risk of fire and explosion.
