All of Apple TV's coverage of the LA Galaxy versus Houston Dynamo FC MLS game on May 23, 2026, will be shot live only on the iPhone 17 Pro.
Apple previously ditched its MLS Season Pass and allowed all Apple TV subscribers to watch Major League Soccer for free in 2026. Now those subscribers are going to see a game where every camera and every angle is shot on an iPhone.
According to Apple, this is the first time an iPhone has been used to capture a whole major professional sporting event live. The iPhone 17 Pro will capture everything from "team warmups on the pitch, player introductions, in-net goal angles, and the atmosphere inside the stadium."
Apple says that viewers will see "dynamic new perspectives that bring viewers closer to the action," because of the small size of an iPhone compared to a regular camera.
It's not the first time that any coverage has been shot this way, as Apple did use an iPhone 17 Pro during a "Friday Night Baseball" game in September 2025, but that was for selected moments only. It still won Apple recognition from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, which Apple says then added the iPhone to its collection.
Then following that success, Apple has been increasing the use of the iPhone 17 Pro's three 48MP cameras in sports broadcasting. It next contributed coverage in the 2025 MLS Cup, and subsequently was part of the production for both MLS and "Friday Night Baseball" throughout the season.
This latest venture, though, is the first time that the iPhone 17 Pro will be used for the entire coverage, with no other cameras in use at all.
The match between LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC will stream live on Apple TV from the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. It's the final weekend of MLS play before the regular season takes a break for the FIFA World Cup.
Apple TV will stream the coverage live from 7:30 p.m. Pacific time on Saturday, May 23. Then "Friday Night Baseball" will continue through 2028.
