AT&T extends $50 credit for iPhone upgrades purchased through Apple Store

Last updated

AT&T is running an unadvertised promotion that gives a $50 bill credit to current subscribers purchasing a new iPhone from the Apple Store as an upgrade under the carrier's Next program.

According to the terms of the deal, the $50 credit is applicable to current subscribers who buy any new iPhone model from online or brick-and-mortar Apple Stores, sign up for AT&T's Next financing program and keep the line active for at least 45 days. The promotion was first spotted by MacRumors and confirmed by AppleInsider.

The option is not advertised on Apple's website, but the following fine print does appear when selecting AT&T's Next plan to upgrade an existing line with an iPhone 5s, 5c, 6 or 6 Plus through the Online Apple Store:

$50 Bill Credit Offer: Ends 12/31/14. Must remain in active and in good standing on Next for 45 days to receive bill credit on your AT&T mobility bill within 3 bill cycles. Upgrades only. Requires iPhone to be purchased via AT&T Next and activated on a qualifying AT&T voice and data wireless service plan. Offer may not be combinable with other credits, discounts and offers. Offer and terms subject to change and may be discontinued at any time without notice.

Introduced last year, AT&T Next is a specialized payment plan that allows customers to take receipt of a new handset or tablet with zero down, spreading the regular retail price across 20, 24 or 30 monthly installments. Depending on the program, customers can trade in their handset for a new one after 12, 18 or 24 months.

As noted above, the promotion officially ends on Dec. 31, but AT&T reserves the right to discontinue the deal at any time.

I just ordered a 6 on Monday but not via Apple. I called AT&T tonight but the person I talked to knew nothing about this. I called back again and apparently my order is almost ready to be shipped so they couldn't cancel it. They told me the only way I could get the $50 credit was to purchase the phone outright and then return the one I ordered. But that doesn't work because in order to qualify for the credit you need to be on the Next program. #idiots This headline is misleading though. It has to be an Apple promotion. Why would AT&T offer a credit only if you order through Apple stores? And why would sales reps on the phone not know anything about it?

Because that’s the angle at which the UI looks correct.
