Apple on Thursday released a list of the most popular media on iTunes and the App Store during 2017, also calling attention to editorial picks for iPhone and iPad apps.
The most popular album on Apple Music was Drake's "More Life," while the top individual song was Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You." In the app realm, Nintendo's Super Mario Run was the most downloaded game, and sticker/emoji app Bitmoji led non-gaming categories.
The bestselling movie of the year was "Moana." The top TV show was "Game of Thrones," and NPR's "Fresh Air" ranked first in podcasts. The company was less clear about bestsellers at the iBooks Store, though some of the top fiction books included Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" and Fredrik Backman's "A Man Called Ove." Nonfiction leaders included Neil deGrasse Tyson's "Astrophysics for People in a Hurry," two books by disgraced Fox News host Bill O'Reilly, and even one by Sen. Al Franken, who may announce his resignation later today.
Apple noted that the top three courses on iTunes U were all related to programming in Swift.
