Vera Farmiga to lead Apple TV+ series 'Five Days at Memorial'

Vera Farmiga will play the lead role in "Five Days at Memorial," an upcoming Apple TV+ limited series created by John Ridley and Carlton Cuse.

The project, which Apple landed in 2020, chronicles the first five days of post-Hurricane Katrina events in a New Orleans hospital. It's based on the novel of the same name by Pulitzer Prize winner Sheri Fink.

Farmiga will play Dr. Anna Pou, the doctor on duty at Memorial when Hurricane Katrina hit, according to Deadline.

The book that the show is based on seeks to answer the question of whether medical staff at Memorial, led by Dr. Pou, euthanized critically ill patients after being trapped in the hospital without power for days. It also follows an attempt to prosecute Pou and two nurses for homicide.

Ridley and Cuse will serve as showrunners, writers and executive producers on the project, while Ridley will also serve as director. Fink, the author of "Five Days at Memorial," will produce the project.

The show will join a growing slate of Apple TV+ originals based on novels and books, including "Mosquito Coast," starring Justin Theroux, and Stephen King-headed "Lisey's Story."

I like limited run streamer stories. More in depth than a movie or TV mini series can be, but not kept going until they jump the shark like all too many tv shows.

It’s why there should not be a second series of the Queen’s Gambit, for example. The story has been told.
