'Civilization VI' New Frontier Pass coming August 24 to iOS

Last updated

After a year with no updates, the iOS and iPadOS version of "Civilization VI" is getting a major content update with the New Frontier Pass expansion.

The New Frontier Pass for "Civilization VI" adds eight new civilizations and nine new leaders to the base game. While the expansion has rolled out to PC and Console versions, this is the first time it is coming to iOS.

In a follow-up Tweet, Aspyr Media said the launch is being celebrated with a discount on all existing DLC and the base game unlock price is being temporarily lowered to $4.99. The update that adds the New Frontier Pass also includes a free update for all players that improves cross-platform saves and adds image quality options.

New players get to try "Civilization VI" for 60 turns before having to pay to unlock the full game. There are multiple DLC packs available to play before the New Frontier Pass launches on August 24.

The iOS and iPadOS version of "Civilization VI" hasn't been updated in over a year, but the game usually doesn't see updates unless new content packs area available. Despite being the mobile version of the game, "Civilization VI" is the full experience, just optimized for touch.

The New Frontier Pass will be available for purchase on August 24, likely priced at $39.99 like its PC counterpart. The expansion is launching on iOS first and is expected to make its way to Android later.

In order to play "Civilization VI" players need to be running at least iOS 12 and have a compatible device. These devices include:

  • iPhone 7 and newer
  • iPad Air 2 and newer
  • iPad Mini (5th Gen)
  • iPad 5th Gen (2017) and newer
  • 9.7-inch iPad Pro and newer

I love playing Civ on my big iPad Pro! the mobility of the iPad makes it so much easier to spend more time playing the game. It’s also more stable than the Mac version, at least for me.

Some iOS apps can run in a window on M1 Macs. How about this one?
