Apple TV+ fills out cast of 'The Greatest Beer Run Ever'

Following rumors that it was in talks to purchase rights to Peter Farrelly's "The Greatest Beer Run Ever," Apple TV+ is reportedly filling out the movie's cast led by Zac Efron and Russell Crowe.

"The Greatest Beer Run Ever" is now an Apple original, with Jake Picking, Will Ropp, Archie Renaux and Kyle Allen set to star alongside Efron and Crowe, reports Deadline.

The movie is based on the New York Times bestselling book "The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A Memoir of Friendship, Loyalty and War" by Joanna Molloy and John "Chickie" Donohue. The story follows Donohue, who in 1967 decides to leave New York and deliver beer to his childhood friends who are serving tours of duty in Vietnam.

Efron is set to play Donohue, while Picking, Allen and Renaux will play his buddies Rick Duggan, Bobby Pappas and Tommy Collins. Ropp is cast as Kevin McLoone, another friend who Donohue meets along the way, the report says.

Farrelly, who directed the Oscar-winning "Green Book," adapted the script for "The Greatest Beer Run Ever" with Brian Currie and Pete Jones. Andrew Muscato will produce alongside Skydance's David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger.

Apple has a packed slate of original films in the pipeline including Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon," Joel Coen's "The Tragedy of Macbeth" and more. Earlier in September, a report claimed Apple doubled production efforts and expects to release one new show or movie every week in 2022.
