Samsung's lineup of monitors for 2022 includes the Smart Monitor M8 with built-in smart TV apps, the High Resolution Monitor S8 aimed at professionals, and the curved Odyssey Neo G8 with a 240Hz refresh rate.
Samsung typically has a strong showing of monitors during CES, revealing its launches for the year ahead. For 2022, Samsung is keeping up the tradition, highlighting a trio of display series that could interest Mac users.
The Odyssey Neo 8 is billed as a display for gamers, but it offers many features that are useful for other use cases. Samsung says it's the first monitor to have a 4K 1000R curved display, with a high 240Hz refresh rate and a low 1ms response time.
The screen uses Quantum Mini LEDs with Samsung's Quantum HDR 2000 to offer a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, as well as a million-to-one contrast ratio. There's also a backlighting system that projects colors from the display onto a wall behind the monitor, which could help users get more engaged with on-screen content like games and movies.
The High Resolution Monitor S8, which will be available in 27-inch and 32-inch varieties, has Samsung tempting creators and designers with "professional-level UHD performance" and high levels of accuracy. This includes coverage of up to 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
There is a matte display layer applied to the top of the panel to reduce light reflection, with it also the first in the world to be verified by Underwriter Laboratories as a glare-free monitor.
The S8 also have connectivity over USB Type-C with 90W of power delivery and an Ethernet port, so connected MacBook Pros can recharge and connect to a local network and display video on the screen through one cable connection. The included height-adjustable stand provides tilt, swivel, and pivot functionality, with VESA mounts also offered.
The Smart Monitor M8, a 32-inch display, is aimed at being an entertainment-focused monitor with a sense of style. Measuring 11.4mm thin and three quarters thinner than its predecessor, the 2022 model has a minimalist bezel to match its flat back and compact sizing.
The UHD panel offers 99% sRGB color gamut coverage with 1.07 billion colors, at up to 400 nits of brightness. Connectivity includes a USB Type-C port with 65W of power delivery for recharging a MacBook Air.
The party piece of the display is that it also provides smart TV functionality, with it including various apps for content consumption and productivity. A magnetic SlimFit Cam is included for video conferencing, with its built-in Video Call app supporting major calling apps such as Google Duo.
Samsung intends to release pricing and availability details for each model later in 2022.

They make you choose between high resolution (S8) and 4K mini LED (G8).
The S8 is the obvious competitor for whatever Apple (or LG) has in the pipeline, the same two sizes. Looks decent, and meets the newest HDR 600 standard, but the resolutions are not specified other than to say they are “high.” No mini LED, though, so won’t compete directly with XDR.
I bought a LG smart TV. Now I regret. It is like Google peddling ads to the TV screen. Need to do extra work to remove. :'(
