Apple signs series order for dark comedy 'Sunny'

Apple TV+ has announced a new, dark comedy titled "Sunny," set to star Rashida Jones.

"Sunny" follows Rashida Jones ("On the Rocks") as Suzie, an American living in Kyoto, Japan. After losing her husband and son in a mysterious plane crash, she's gifted Sunny, a domestic robot made by her husband's electronics company.

An unexpected friendship between Suzie and Sunny leads the duo to discover what happened to Suzie's family and uncover a world Suzie never knew existed.

Apple describes "Sunny" as a "darkly comedic half-hour drama." The series hails from A24 and is created by Kate Robbins ("The Affair.)

The series joins other Apple TV+ dramedy titles, including 1980s dark comedy "Physical," and upcoming retro-future dramedy "Hello, Tomorrow!"
