Eufy scandal intensifies, Ikea's new AirPlay speaker, & much more smart home news

It's been a busy week in the smart home world, with new products and breaking news to break down. The most high proifile has likely been Eufy's privacy issues with its security cameras.

Eufy cameras were revealed to have been sending information to their servers to use with notifications without notifying users — even if they had cloud services disabled.

If that wasn't enough, Eufy then lied to The Verge about a second security issue where any Eufy camera can be tapped into with a serial number and VLC player. This vulnerability has not been exploited in the wild. but is very concerning for users.

In better news, Ikea and Sonos have partnered once again on a new smart speaker. The new floor standing speaker-lamp combo device is an excellent option for surround sound listening and they can be used as AirPlay 2 speakers.

The Plejd gateway has been updated, adding official HomeKit support. Now all connected child devices will work with HomeKit, assuming they are within a HomeKit category.

Hunter Douglas, smart shade manufacturer, has added two new window covering options for users to choose. They are Silhouette Halo Shadings and Luminette Privacy Sheers and can be chosen during purchase of your connected shades.
