iOS 17.3 beta, CarPlay safety, Beeper Mini saga, and more on the AppleInsider Podcast

On this week's episode of the AppleInsider Podcast, your hosts preview Stolen Device Protection in the iOS 17.3 beta, talk about GM's Apple CarPlay dropout, and unravel the continuing drama around Beeper Mini.

The Journal app has arrived in iOS 17.2 and it's still quite limited compared to other journaling apps. Not to be slowed down, Apple also released the first iOS 17.3 beta with Stolen Device Protection.

Thieves would steal users' iPhones and passcodes while in public, leading to a complete lockout of the victim's Apple ID. Stolen Device Protection aims to eliminate that issue and your hosts discuss how it works and what a thief would need to do to get past it.

General Motors had a bit of a PR snafu as one of its executives claimed Apple CarPlay was unsafe — which led to GM abandoning the platform. A statement was released by GM to distance itself from the comment, claiming that working with Apple and Android is a priority.

The controversial Beeper Mini app, which brings iMessage to Android, has run into issues again. While the concept is clever, the app is still operating without authorization from Apple and will inevitably be shut down.

Your hosts close the show discussing Apple Vision Pro, Spatial Video, and the expensive product's impending release. The first half of 2024 could prove expensive for Apple fans.
