iOS 17.2 released, HomeKit routers, and sleep sensors, on the HomeKit Insider Podcast

HomeKit Insider

On this week's episode of the HomeKit Insider podcast, your hosts goes through the latest smart home news, go hands-on with the new Eve Play, and talk about the new iOS 17.2 release.

Aqara released a new software update this week, adding new functionality to its FP2 presence sensor. It can now act as a sleep monitor when mounted above your bed.

The FP2 sensor uses mmWave to detect movements while you sleep. It's able to detect breathing and heart rate as well for a single person. This is currently a free feature, though that may change.

This past week also saw the launch of the iOS 17.2 update. It contains a number of new feature for on the smart home side, it enables Qi2 support for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14.

What wasn't in this release was Apple's AirPlay in Hotels feature that has been officially pushed to 2024.

We got many listeners writing in about Activity Notifications on their ecobee video doorbell and after speaking with the company, it seems the issues are resolved and you can safely enable these on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV.

After the news, we went into a deep dive on HomeKit routers — or lack thereof. There is at least one new one that appears to have it, but so far there have been no Wi-Fi 6E routers to support it.

Finally, we go hands-on with the new Nomad Stand One Max. This is a new multi-charger with MagSafe for iPhone, Apple Watch fast charging, and a Qi charger for AirPods.
