Apple seeds release candidates of iOS 17.3, iPadOS 17.3

iOS 17

The release candidate beta builds of iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3 are now available to try out on iPhone and iPad.

Developers taking part in the beta program can acquire the latest builds through the Apple Developer Center or by updating their iPhone or iPad via the Settings app. Public beta versions typically appear shortly after the developer versions, and public participants can sign up through the Apple Beta Software Program website.

The fourth builds of iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3 follow the third from January 9, while the second appeared on January 3.

The new beta's build number for iPhone or iPad is 21D50, replacing the third, build number 21D5044a. For older devices, Apple has also issued a release candidate of iPadOS 15.8.1.

As well as the return of collaborative playlists in Apple Music, the main improvement in the betas isStolen Device Protection, a feature that prevents the changes of critical portions of Apple ID or device settings if their iPhone is taken while it is unlocked.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly suggest users don't install test operating systems or other beta or RC software on "mission-critical" or primary devices, as there is the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should instead use secondary or non-essential hardware and ensure they have sufficient backups of their critical data at all times.
