One of the best Apple Silicon games is free to play this weekend

'No Mans Sky' is free to play through February 19

Last updated

Space simulator "No Mans Sky" has a new update, and to celebrate it, they've made the title free to play between February 15 and February 19.

Eight years after launch, and 24 major updates later, Hello Games' No Mans Sky has another update. To celebrate that Omega update, the title has gone free to play for the weekend.

"This represents a moment for new players to try No Man's Sky, and existing players to welcome them into the community," the developers wrote in a blog post. "There are no microtransactions, no free to play mechanics, just a huge universe to explore for free with your friends."

No Man's Sky is a procedurally generated universe filled with countless solar systems, planets, moons, and space stations waiting to be explored. Players can venture out and explore, build bases, and engage in the trade systems or focus on the main plot, which aims to take players on a journey to the center of the universe.

MetalFX Upscaling enables fast loading and consistent performance across all Apple Silicon Macs. It also ensures battery life is maintained while playing on MacBooks.

No Man's Sky is a game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated universe.

Any Mac with an M-series processor can handle "No Man's Sky." Even the entry MacBook Air.

Limited Intel compatibility is also available. The minimum specs for Intel Macs are an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, a Radeon Pro 570X 4GB Graphics Card, and 20GB of storage.

We weren't able to locate the App Store version, as of the morning of February 16. The Steam version is available, however. And, if you like what you see, the game is discounted by 50% on Steam.

But check your library first — since this is the same game that is found on other platforms, it is also cross-play compatible, so if you play on a PC, you probably already can play on Mac. Mac players can play alongside Xbox, Playstation, PC, and VR users without issue.
