After an initial unlikely post by a serial questionable leaker, a video shared on social media is said to be Apple's rumored Liquid Silicone iPhone 17 cases, for real, this time.
The sketchy video shows what looks like an iPhone 17 dummy inside a silicone case. The case has two small holes in the corners that could be meant for a wrist strap.
The holes would allow a lanyard to loop through for extra security, a detail that might appeal to some users. But the source of the video is Majin Bu, a leaker with a mixed record.
Majin Bu is a social media leaker known for reposting content from elsewhere and making broad predictions. Lately they've been pushing iPhone 17 case leaks, which has added skepticism about their reliability.
It's also not clear if the case actually comes from Bu or if it was sourced elsewhere and passed off as their own. That's something followers have noticed in past leaks, where Bu has reshared material instead of producing it directly.
Prior "Liquid Silicone" case looked very different
Earlier in August, Majin Bu shared images of what he claimed were Liquid Silicone iPhone 17 cases. They looked bulky, had cutouts, and a strange wave pattern. They didn't match Apple's usual minimalist style.

Even given Bu's history of shaky leaks, this design is at least possible, where the last one looked unlikely. It's simple, minimalist, and matches Apple's preference for clean accessories, unlike the earlier bulkier case with a Camera Control cutout.
That doesn't prove it's genuine, but it explains why this video has drawn more interest.
Apple's own iPhone 16 accessories already support Camera Control without any holes. For example, the Beats iPhone 16 MagSafe case relies on a small sapphire crystal and conductive layer to transmit finger presses and swipes to the Camera Control button.
The cutout-heavy "Liquid Silicone" leak from earlier in August appears highly suspect. The new video aligns better with Apple's established approach.
There's no sign of today's video being a leak of an official Apple design.
What Apple has done before
Apple has included lanyard or lanyard-compatible features in past products. The second-generation AirPods Pro case has a small built-in loop for a wrist or neck strap, although Apple sells the strap separately.
The fifth-generation iPod touch also had a built-in lanyard connector, a design that hasn't appeared again on iPhones. That shows Apple has tried the idea before, just never on its flagship product.
The latest clip doesn't prove Apple designed the case. It shows an unlabeled shell on a dummy model, with no packaging or branding that would confirm its origin.
It could easily come from a third-party accessory maker trying to capitalize on Apple's iOS 26 "Liquid Glass" aesthetic.
September reveal to clarify
Apple typically unveils new iPhone models and their official accessories in early September. When iPhone 16 launched last year, the Beats case with Camera Control came out at the same time.
The only reason we're labeling this one as "possible" is that it's reasonable to expect the company will also reveal an official lanyard case options when it unveils iPhone 17 models. The new case might be genuine, but we won't know for sure until the iPhone 17 launch.
