Harry Potter fans can now step into the Hogwarts Great Hall without leaving their living room, thanks to a new HBO Max app update for Apple Vision Pro.
HBO is expanding its support for Apple Vision Pro with an immersive update that puts users inside the Hogwarts Great Hall. Announced on August 21, the feature lets subscribers browse and stream in one of the most iconic rooms from the Harry Potter series.
It's the second environment HBO has built for Vision Pro, following its "Game of Thrones" rollout. The company is making it clear that it sees the headset as more than just another screen.
The update comes with Day and Night modes. In daylight, the Great Hall shows off its towering ceilings and long banquet tables. At night, the space glows with floating candles and ambient sound effects taken straight from the films.

To use it, subscribers need HBO Max version 6.2.0 and visionOS 2.6 or later. Apple Vision Pro owners can download the update right now and explore the hall at their own pace.
Early reactions have been enthusiastic. Tech personality Ben Geskin shared clips on X, calling the update "magical." His posts quickly made the rounds among Vision Pro fans and Potter diehards.
HBO was among the first streaming platforms to build a native app for visionOS. That early move gave it an edge over competitors who have stuck with basic playback.
Why HBO is leaning in
With immersive environments, HBO can stand out in a crowded market. Apple wants people to see Vision Pro as a "spatial computer," not just a headset. The more apps that take advantage of immersive features, the stronger that pitch becomes.
Other services have dabbled with themed spaces, but HBO is putting real weight behind them. Disney+ and Apple TV+ have both experimented, though usually on a smaller scale.
Harry Potter is still one of Warner Bros.' most valuable properties, even as the brand navigates controversy around its creator. Nostalgia sells, and HBO is betting fans will enjoy returning to the Great Hall, no matter what.
Technical details
The environment runs on visionOS's immersive app framework. Apple has refined the system over time, with version 2.6 offering smoother performance and improved lighting. Users need the latest app and OS updates for the Great Hall to load correctly.
It doesn't improve video resolution, but it adds atmosphere. Sitting in the hall under enchanted ceilings makes watching familiar films feel more like an event.
HBO hasn't confirmed more Harry Potter environments, but the series offers plenty of material. A Quidditch pitch or the Forbidden Forest would translate naturally into the Vision Pro format.
Success with the Great Hall could open the door for those projects. HBO is giving fans a reason to revisit one of cinema's most famous settings in a way only possible on Apple's headset.
