With Apple set to hold the iPhone 17 release event on September 9, a last-minute leak has detailed the Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch SE that are likely to be announced.
While Apple's upcoming "Awe Dropping" event is set to focus on the iPhone 17 launch, new wearables were always likely. Now, Bloomberg reports that no fewer than three new iPhones will be unveiled.
The report suggests that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will be announced during the event, as expected. Apple's most rugged smartwatch didn't get a refresh in 2024, but this time around, it will get some notable upgrades.
Those will start with a new S11 chip, the report claims, as well as support for 5G wireless connectivity. It's also expected that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will gain a slightly larger display. Support for Apple's satellite communication features is also likely.
The Apple Watch Series 11 is the model most people will buy, but no big changes are anticipated this year. The report expects the wearable to look largely identical to the current Apple Watch Series 10 design.
Despite that, Apple could change the colors on offer, while updated bands are also likely. New Apple Watches and a revamped band collection often come hand in hand.
At the budget end of the lineup, a new Apple Watch SE is also expected to get some love. Again, no radical changes are expected, but upgrades to the display are possible, although it's unclear if an always-on display will be added.
A chip upgrade is likely, ensuring support for future watchOS updates.
Finally, Apple's health initiatives have proven popular ever since the Apple Watch launched in 2014. But the report warns that hypertension detection and other additions continue to face regulatory scrutiny.
As a result, it seems unlikely that new health features will come to the Apple Watch lineup in 2025. Apple is thought to have plans to launch a new, paid-for Apple Health+ service in 2026 with an AI component included.
While little of this news is new, it's another indication that we can look forward to plenty of new hardware on September 9. New iPhones, new Apple Watches, and the unveiling of the AirPods Pro 3 earbuds should make for a jam-packed event.
