While Apple is expected to launch an "Air" model as part of the iPhone 17 range, a last-minute leak hints that it may lose the 17 and be known as the "iPhone Air."
The rumor millfor the iPhone 17 generation has been firm on the idea of there being a slim iPhone in the roster. The iPhone 17 Air is believed to replace what would be the "Plus" model in the four-model roster.
However, if images shared by leaker DuanRui on X are to be believed, it may simply be known as the iPhone Air.
A photo sourced from Chinese social media shows a warranty card listing it as for the "iPhone Air, Space Black, 256GB." The documentation is wrapped by a clear plastic band, similar to the ones used by Apple in its packaging.

A second image gives the simple indicator that a device supports eSIM. This is insinuated to be documentation for the iPhone Air by being part of the same leak.
It also plays into rumors that Apple is removing the physical SIM tray from all versions of the iPhone Air. Previously, Apple has made versions of its iPhone in both physical SIM and eSIM-only forms.
The iPhone Air is thought to be too slim to actually fit a SIM tray into the design. There has also been the claim that eSIM training has been delivered to retail staff in preparation for a SIM tray-less release.
As a leaker, DuanRui has a reasonable track record for accurately sharing pre-release Apple hardware. In 2021, they were allegedly a recipient of letters from Apple demanding a stop of leak sharing.
