After years of inactivity, only Taylor Swift could coax iTunes' social media presences back from the grave.
After six years of silence, the iTunes social media accounts are suddenly active again. Their comeback coincides with Taylor Swift's twelfth studio album, "The Life of a Showgirl," arriving October 3.
On September 10, both the iTunes X page and Facebook page posted links to pre-order Taylor's upcoming album. Clicking the link opens the Apple Music page for the album, which includes an Apple-exclusive behind-the-scenes video titled "A Look Behind the Curtain"

Judging by the fact that both social media pages have a new Taylor-centric overhaul, odds are this is a paid promotional deal. Of course, Apple's cut of digital album sales doesn't hurt, either.
Six years silent
In 2019, after years of regular reposting, Apple's official iTunes X account — then-Twitter — went mysteriously silent. Well, maybe not so mysteriously.
The now-penultimate post iTunes made to X came on July 10, 2019. One month prior, Apple had announced that it would be breaking up the nearly 20-year-old app into three: Music, TV, and Podcasts.
And a few days before the official announcement, iTunes' social media began to go dark. The iTunes Facebook page was scrubbed clean and the Instagram account was deleted entirely.
It's unlikely that we'll see new life breathed into either of the iTunes pages anytime soon. At least until Taylor drops her thirteenth album.
