Apple TV+ is taking viewers to the Alaskan wilderness with a new thriller that looks more like a survivalist nightmare than a standard streaming drama.
Apple on September 18 unveiled the trailer for The Last Frontier, a 10-episode series created by Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D'Ovidio, and starring Jason Clarke.
The show premieres worldwide on Apple TV+ October 10, 2025, with two episodes released on day one, then weekly installments through December 5.
The series follows Frank Remnick, played by Clarke, a U.S. marshal tasked with keeping order in Alaska's remote backcountry. His quiet posting unravels when a prison transport plane crashes nearby, releasing dozens of violent inmates.
It doesn't take long for Remnick to realize the wreck wasn't an accident. The crash is part of a larger plan, with implications that extend far beyond one small town.
The cast & crew
Alongside Clarke, the cast includes Dominic Cooper, Haley Bennett, Simone Kessell, Dallas Goldtooth, and Tait Blum. Veteran actor Alfre Woodard, who has both an Oscar nomination and multiple Emmys to her name, also plays a role.
Behind the camera, the executive producers include Bokenkamp, D'Ovidio, and Clarke himself. The writing team is joined by Laura Benson, Glenn Kessler, and Albert Kim. Sam Hargrave, known for directing Netflix's Extraction, handles episodic directing duties.
Apple Studios is backing the project, continuing its push to diversify Apple TV+ programming. Since its launch in November 2019, Apple TV+ has made a point of banking on original content.
Unlike Netflix, it doesn't rely on licensed shows to fill the catalog. That's a risky approach but one that's worked well in awards season.
Apple Originals have won 622 awards and earned more than 2,800 nominations in under six years. The breakout moment came when CODA won Best Picture at the Oscars, making Apple the first streamer to do so.
Comedies like Ted Lasso and The Studio won Emmys and boosted Apple's credibility against Netflix and Hulu. The Last Frontier offers a different genre: tense, action-driven dramas with spectacle and character work.

The Last Frontier will be available on the Apple TV app across more than 100 countries and on over a billion screens. That includes iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision Pro, Apple TV hardware, and smart TVs from Samsung, Sony, and LG.
