Elgato's Prompter XL brings a larger screen and sturdier frame to creators who want professional Mac-connected teleprompting without investing thousands into broadcast gear.

Elgato built its reputation by adapting studio tools for home use. After the release of the El Gato Prompter, the Prompter XL continues that approach, turning the original Prompter into a full-sized model for DSLR, mirrorless, and studio cameras.

It aims at creators and professionals who want more screen space and flexibility. The sturdier design also gives users better stability during shoots.

The new 15.6-inch Full HD panel outputs 600 nits of brightness and stays legible from up to 15 feet away. The screen detaches magnetically for cleaning, and the aluminum frame supports lenses as long as 22 centimeters.

Digital and physical applications

The Prompter XL mounts on a tripod or C-stand for stability, and includes a cold-shoe rail for accessories. It connects through Elgato's Camera Hub software instead of relying on clunky mobile apps.

Users can edit and scroll scripts live, and the Voice Sync feature automatically follows their speech. The screen can double as a second monitor, showing Twitch chat or video feeds.

Stream Deck support for the Prompter includes the Stream Deck iPhone app. Using either gives users one-tap control for playback and scrolling.

iPhone & Mac compatibility

The Prompter XL fits a range of roles, from YouTube production to corporate meetings. It connects over a single USB-C cable that carries both power and data.

The software works with macOS, Windows, and Android. It does not require a capture card or external power adapter, with computer-connectable cameras.

According to Elgato's documentation, the Prompter XL doesn't support iPhones or iPads as display sources.

It appears that users can mount an iPhone with the included backplate or a custom 3D-printed holder, but we've reached out for more information about this. However, that setup is only mechanical and only for the camera.

Mac users get the best integration. The Prompter XL works with Elgato's Camera Hub software on macOS for live script editing, Voice Sync, and screen management on Apple Silicon Macs.

The Prompter XL uses DisplayLink to work as a teleprompter and a secondary display. Users can drag windows or video calls onto the screen for direct eye contact while recording or presenting.

Many creators center their workflow around MacBooks or desktop Macs. The Prompter XL fits neatly into that setup, combining hardware stability with macOS software control.

It's a plug-and-play option that feels native to Apple's ecosystem without needing extra drivers or adapters.

Pricing & availability

Elgato hasn't positioned the Prompter XL as a budget option, but rather as a serious tool for people who rely on camera-facing work. It's priced to match its size and construction.

The Prompter XL is available now through Elgato and authorized retailers. It's priced at $599.99 in the U.S. with a free Cam Link 4K included for a limited time.

Creators who want a larger, cleaner teleprompter without paying enterprise prices will find the Prompter XL appealing. It strikes a practical balance between hobbyist gear and professional studio hardware.
