Major League Soccer is making its playoff matches free to stream for subscribers of Apple TV, without needing the MLS Season Pass.
MLS is coming to the end of its 2025 season and is about to hold crucial playoff matches. To promote the rebranded Apple TV subscription for the Major League Soccer Season Pass, the playoffs are being made available to Apple TV users.
First reported by Sports Business Journal, MLS and Apple will be making the entire run of playoff matches for the league free to view for current Apple TV subscribers.
Echoing a promotion held in 2024, the playoffs can be watched by Apple TV subscribers, without needing a MLS Season Pass at all. The hope is that people who were put off the subscription will be tempted to pay for the 2026 Season Pass.
In September, the MLS Season Pass saw a reduction in price to $25 for Apple TV subscribers, $29 for non-subscribers. Again, that was an annual change in pricing to promote sales, compared to the usual $79 and $99 season-long cost.
The MLS Cup Playoffs start from October 22 with two Wild Card matches. Chicago Fire FC takes on Orlando City for the Eastern Conference, while the Portland Timbers play Real Salt Lake for the Western Conference.
The winners will take part in Best of Three rounds starting from October 24. The MLS Cup match is scheduled for December 6.
While the matches will be viewable by Apple TV subscribers, select playoffs will also be broadcast via Fox Sports in the United States, as well as TSN and RDS in Canada.
This is the second major news event for Apple TV within the space of a few days. On October 17, it was announced that Apple TV had secured the rights to broadcast Formula 1 races in the United States.
