On this week's episode of the HomeKit Insider podcast, it's been a bad week for smart vacuum companies, a review of the Aqara G100, and more!
Starting out the episode, your host gets into three bits of robotic vacuum news. DJI has launched its new Romo robotic vacuum cleaner with a clear outer shell and highly-touted AI navigation.
Then we have Neato, the robotic vacuum company that went belly up in 2023. After pledging to keep its servers on until 2028, it's instead calling it quits early and decommissioning the cloud services by the end of 2025.
Finally, iRobot has shared in its quarterly earnings call that its last potential buyer has backed out. This leaves the company in a tight financial position and it has warned that it may have to file bankruptcy.
Outside of robot vacuums, SwitchBot has launched a unique candle warmer. It heats up candle wax instead of relying on flames and can be controlled in Apple Home via Matter.
Both Samsung and GE released new products, too. GE Cync has two new lights and Samsung has its new Smart Home Hub 2 with Zigbee and Thread.
Wrapping up the episode is our incredibly in-depth review of the Aqara G100. With a price tag so low, it's an astonishingly powerful camera for Apple Home users with local 24/7 recording storage, local AI processing, and 2K video quality.
