The Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and Apple's 140W USB-C power adapter all have new firmware that will install automatically when connected to a device.
On Tuesday, following the release of iOS 26.2 beta 3, firmware updates were issued for several Apple peripherals. This includes the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and a number pad, as well as the Magic Trackpad and Magic Trackpad 2.
This is the first firmware update these accessories have received since October 2024, when the Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad were upgraded with USB-C ports. This was done to bring the products into compliance with the European Union's requirement that consumer electronics use a common charger by 2024.
The Magic Trackpad with USB-C shipped with firmware 3.1.3, and it can now be updated to version 3.1.8. For the Magic Trackpad 2, Apple released firmware version 3.1.9, up from the previous 3.1.1. Apple's Magic Keyboard with USB-C can also be updated to firmware version 3.1.9, up from the prior 3.1.4 release.
Tuesday's Apple firmware releases included an update for the company's 140W USB-C power adapter, most often used with the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Firmware version 1.4.84 can now be installed on this power adapter, up from version 1.4.73.
Accessory firmware updates like these are installed automatically whenever the peripheral in question is actively paired with a compatible Apple device. The accessories themselves can be paired with an iPhone, an iPad, a Mac, an Apple TV, or even an Apple Vision Pro.
There are currently no details about the contents of the firmware updates Apple released on Tuesday, but it's safe to assume that the company included bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements. Security and performance enhancements may also be present within the updates.
