Apple is culling a number of sales roles, with dozens of workers selling to enterprise, education, and governments losing their jobs.
Layoffs are a fact of life in the tech world, with major companies cutting hundreds and thousands of roles at a time. While Apple doesn't tend to make major layoffs in that way, its smaller layoff instances become more prominent.
Dozens of employees working in sales positions are losing their jobs, reports Bloomberg. Affected workers are based in areas selling to education and government clients, as well as to schools.
While the layoffs are relatively small in scale compared to other big-tech layoffs, it's still a major change to affected teams. Sources say management gave the bad news to affected employees over a number of weeks, and that some teams were hit harder than others.
Apple confirmed to the publication on Monday that it was reshuffling its sales division, though without going into detail.
"To connect with even more customers, we are making some changes in our sales team that affect a small number of roles," a statement from the company reads. "We are continuing to hire and those employees can apply for new roles."
Affected employees will have until January 20, 2026 to secure another position within Apple or face termination with a severance package.
Apple is framing the layoffs as a way to streamline the sales workforce and reduce instances of overlapping opportunities. However, affected workers told the report that it was more likely to be due to Apple shifting sales to third-party resellers, which some organizations prefer to use.
Previous layoffs in 2024 included the disbanding of a 121-member Siri team in San Diego, with employees offered similar roles in Apple's Austin offices. There was also April 2024's laying off of 600 employees involved with Project Titan and smartwatch display initiatives, and approximately 100 job losses in August the same year from various Services teams.
