Spotify subscribers — prepare for a price hike, as the company has announced another increase for users in the U.S., Estonia, and Latvia driving the cost notably above Apple Music.
"Thank you for being a valued Premium subscriber," the announcement starts. "Starting on your billing date in February, your subscription price will change from $11.99/month to $12.99/month."
The company claims the price hike is being done to "keep delivering a great experience."
The company did not make it immediately apparent that they would also jump the cost of its family plan. The Spotify family plan allows up to six users to have premium access, to $21.99 per month, up from $19.99 per month.
While the price hike currently only applies to U.S., Estonian, and Latvian users, we don't anticipate that it will stay that way. In 2024, Spotify raised its prices in nearly every market to be in line with the then-current U.S. prices.
For those who don't want to pay the increase, the ad-supported tier of Spotify is still available. In 2025, Spotify altered its free tier to allow users to search and play specific songs, albums, and artists for the first time — on mobile only.
And yet, free users still face other limitations. They still only get six skips per hour on mobile, do not have the same 15 hours per month for audiobooks, and can only listen while online.
In contrast, Apple Music currently costs $10.99 per month for an individual plan or $16.99 for a family plan. Of course, it can be bundled into an Apple One subscription, too.
Apple Music, however, does not offer a free, ad-supported tier.
Spotify has been instituting yearly price hikes for the past few years. In 2023, Spotify increased the U.S. subscription price from $9.99 to $10.99. In 2024, it would repeat the price hike, jumping it up to $11.99.
