A YouTube app is finally available for the Apple Vision Pro, years after Google confirmed that it was "on the roadmap."
Until now, Apple Vision Pro owners have been reduced to watching YouTube via the Safari web browser or using a third-party app. Now, they can download the free, official YouTube app from the headset's App Store.
Google seemed intent on ensuring that its website would be the only way to watch YouTube initially. The company had Juno, a third-party YouTube player, kicked off the App Store in late 2024.
Anyone worried that Google would release a barebones YouTube app needn't have done so. The App Store page for the new app confirms that viewers can watch everything that YouTube has to offer — vitally including 3D 360 and VR180 videos.
The addition of support for VR180 content is notable and means that Apple Vision Pro owners can more easily enjoy immersive content.
Normal 2D videos as well as YouTube Shorts are also present. Even better, owners of the newer M5 Apple Vision Pro can enjoy 8K videos, offering improved resolution for a cleaner, sharper image.
Other YouTube staples like subscriptions, playlists, and watch history information are all available. Viewers will also be able to read comments and browse a video's description in floating boxes above the video, too.
Google had said as far back as February 2024 that it intended to bring a YouTube app to Apple's spatial computer. But this new release comes as a surprise — and a welcome one at that.
Our two resident Apple Vision Pro experts, fan Wesley Hilliard and skeptic Mike Wuerthele are looking at the app right now.
