On this week's episode of the Smart Home Insider podcast, an Amazon Fire TV hardware update, testing the Aqara P100 multi-sensor, setting up Apple TV audio properly, and more exciting home automation news.

Amazon kicked off the news with several updates to its Fire TV lineup. Most notable was the $35 Fire Stick HD that is now 30% faster and can be powered directly from a TV's USB port.

It is running Amazon's new operating system Vega that will be on all Fire devices going forward. Plus, it has Alexa+ built-in to help with your TV watching as well as control your smart home devices.

Continuing with the TV news, new Vizio televisions will require users to log in with a Walmart account before they can access any streaming apps. This is designed to help collect user data and offset the low price of the TVs, though it's irrelevant if you're using a connected box like an Apple TV 4K.

The Aqara U400 smart lock has finished its Aliro certification this past week, bringing UWB and NFC to other platforms beyond Apple Home. We've been using this lock since January and it's been an exceptional performer.

Govee has released two new smart lights that are both now available to purchase. There is the Outdoor Spotlight Lite and the LED Lightwall.

The Govee Outdoor Spotlight Lite comes as a four-pack of water-resistant lights that can be used for ambient lighting with full RGBIC support. They are Matter-over-Wi-Fi and very affordable at $99.

Govee's second new product is a portable 8-foot by 6-foot LED light wall that can display static and moving images at up to 35 frames per second. It's water-resistant and Govee's AI assistant can help generate animations.

The light wall comes with a carrying case so that the aluminum frame and LEDs can be disassembled and stored. It's available for $449, which is understandably high when considering the 1,536 LEDs that are used.

Also in the news, SwitchBot launched a new version of its popular button-pressing robot. It lasts 6 months on a single charge and is powered up over USB-C.

Birdfy announced its updated metal bird feeder. The Birdfy Metal 2 4K Smart Bird Feeder upped the resolution from 1080P to 4K and has a sleek moss green finish.

Finally, we get into a few hands-on scenarios. Your host talks about recent TV woes getting his Apple TV and soundbar to play nicely together and how he eventually solved it.

Then we go hands-on with the Aqara P100 multi-sensor that is able to detect vibration, rotation, drops, taps, and more. It works with Matter-over-Thread or pair it with an Aqara hub via Zigbee for more functionality.

There are a variety of use cases for this versatile sensor like detecting when your mail was delivered or automatically turning on the bathroom vent when you turn on the water in the shower. The only problem is that you'll end up wanting several.

We wrap the episode with a listener question from Mitchell. Mitchell is building a new home and wants to automate the sliding door for the dogs and is looking for a possible solution that works with Apple Home.
