Apple TV's hit science fiction dystopian drama "Silo" is gearing up to return to the small screen this summer, with a storyline revealing how its society was forced underground.

The third season will continue the saga of 10,000 people living in a silo, and for the first time tell it over two timelines. In the present, Juliette Nichols (star and executive producer Rebecca Fergusson) has survived her forced "cleaning" as the silo reels from the rebellion.

As that story continues from the events in the previous two seasons, the other looks into the origins of the silo. Some time in the past, a journalist and congressman uncover a conspiracy that sets off a chain of catastrophic, irreversible consequences.

Apple TV has set the premiere for July 3, followed by a new episode every Friday through September 4. In preparation, Apple TV has shared the official trailer, giving fans a sneak peek at what is coming next.

"Silo" is based on Hugh Howey's New York Times bestselling "Wool" trilogy of books that were initially self-published. The series version was created by Emmy Award winner Graham Yost, previously best known for "Justified."

The show was renewed for a third and fourth season in late 2024, but Apple has announced that the series would then be ending. Apple regularly gives two-season orders, even if it doesn't promote the fact, but this is a rare example of showrunners revealing a definite ending.

Apple TV originally commissioned'Silo' back in 2021. In its time on Apple TV, it received two Bafta Television Awards for Best Production Design as well as Best Original Music.
