For those of you who have been following AppleInsider lately, we've been following the rumor that Apple plans to open a series of retail locations in select cities nationwide. So far sources have provided AppleInsider with bits and pieces of conformation, though the most recent is most convincing.
According to sources, on October 11 Apple Computer, Inc. recruited Allen Moyer as their Vice President of Real Estate, Construction and Facilities. Allen ventures over from Sony Retail Entertainment where he was most recently responsible for the full range of design and implementation of all Retail Entertainment Centers, including the Metreon in San Francisco.
Prior to Sony, Allen spent 14 years with Walt Disney Imagineering where he directed the design and construction efforts of Euro Disneyland, Discovery Mountain, Magic Kingdom, MGM Studios and EPCOT expansion projects, just to name a few notable accomplishments. "His proven track record in managing large, complex projects coupled with his exceptional leadership reputation will be a great addition to the Apple management team," Fred Anderson, Apple's Chief Financial Officer, said.
Allen holds an undergraduate degree in Design and a masters degree in Art & Architecture, both from the University of Florida.
Shortly after the acquisition of Allen, Fred Anderson sent out an e-mail to select Apple employees detailing the move. In the e-mail, Anderson stated that Moyer will report directly to him.
It seems all too likely that the rumors of Apple-branded Retail Outlets and the recent acquisition of Moyer are much more than just a coincidence. As promised, we'll continue to keep you updated on any and all developments in Apple's new ventures.
