Mailbox for Mac moves to open public beta, iOS app optimized for iPhone 6

Last updated

Dropbox-owned Mailbox on Monday announced that an open beta of a forthcoming Mac version is now available to all comers, while the original iOS app receives new gesture customization features and UI tweaks for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

In a post to its Twitter account, Mailbox confirmed that its Mac beta client is now available to the general public. The developer released an initial public beta to select users in August.

Along with open availability, the latest version of Mailbox for Mac beta brings a new gesture feature that allows users to purge email from Trash and Spam categories by swiping a message to the right. The software also fixes an issue in which emails with attachments would fail to send when using an alias, as well as a problem that input incorrect "From" addresses when replying to a message sent to another alias.

Mailbox first announced it was working on a Mac client in April, porting the same gesture-based swipe controls from the iOS title to Apple Trackpad or Magic Mouse.

The original Mailbox app for iOS also received a version bump to 2.3.1 on Monday, offering new swipe customization, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus optimization and fixes for iOS 8 push notifications and email rendering issues. iOS device users can download the app for free directly from the iOS App Store.
