Apple posts promoted-only tweet teasing Sept. 7 event

Last updated

In what is thought to be the first public interaction to originate from Apple's official corporate Twitter account, the company on Friday posted a promoted-only tweet inviting users to tune in for next week's special event.

The promoted tweet offers basic information about the Sept. 7 event and includes a link to Apple's live stream, which is anticipated to go live shortly before the keynote kicks off next Wednesday.

Today's tweet also contains a custom Apple logo emoji and the hashtag #AppleEvent, the latter being a bid to spark public discussion of the upcoming announcement expected to bring news of new iPhone, Apple Watch hardware and, potentially, Beats headphone hardware.

Apple seems to be taking full advantage of the social media platform's notification feature set, as users who retweet today's promoted tweet are automatically signed up to receive a reminder on event day.

Interestingly, Apple opted to send the message as a promoted-only tweet, meaning it only appears in timelines of users specified in Apple's advertising campaign agreement. Followers of the @Apple account might see the post pop up in their feed if they are part of the targeted audience, though exposure is not guaranteed.

Apple's @Apple Twitter account was updated earlier today after lying dormant for five years. The corporate account joins a family of Apple Twitter handles maintained for customer support and promotion of various products like Apple Music, the App Store and iTunes.

AppleInsider will be covering Apple's keynote presentation live from the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco next Wednesday at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern.

iPhone 7 will have surprises for sure.

I'm nitpicking here but the Apple Event app on Apple TV doesn't tease this upcoming event. It still says "WWDC 2016"

It is odd that Apple didn't lease a new Xcode beta to developers on Aug 29 -- the norrrmmal cycle.

That makes me suspect that there is something in the next Xcode contains iOS APIs that are unique to the iPhone 7.

"One more thing... ARKit, driving a next generation of immersive games for the coming holiday season."

Just been on casetify and they have cases and photos of the new iPhone 7

The "7 plus" cases pictured here have only a single lens camera, and a cutout for a 3.5mm headphone jack.  Probably just placeholders.

No one knows what it looks like. Stop. Be patient.

Who knows? Problem is droid cam copy that easily. Unless there's an innovative chip?

might sound cheesy but I really want to see the Apple logo have function. Imagine an Apple Watch style charger that snaps to the logo? Possibly removing the Lightning connector. What about the Apple Watch health sensors in the logo? Touch the logo to your body for instant health stats. Flash? Flashlight? Mac style light up option at night?

one can dream!!
