Apple rolls out fourth developer beta of tvOS 12.1.1 for testing

Apple has issued another beta in its developer testing program, with users of the Apple TV now able to try out the fourth beta of tvOS 12.1.1.

The new build of tvOS can be acquired as an over-the-air update to devices already enrolled into the test program, or can be initiated by visiting the Apple Developer Center. Public beta releases of the build typically follow within a few days of the developer version, and can be picked up from the Apple Beta Software Program website.

The latest tvOS 12.1.1 fourth developer beta build is identified as 16K5045a. It replaces the third developer beta, 16K5044a. It is likely that tvOS is just seeing bug fixes and improvements in version 12.1.1, with the betas again suggesting it is a performance and compatibility release.

The release of tvOS on its own is unusual, as new fourth betas for iOS 12.1.1 and a third beta for watchOS 5.1.2 have yet to be released, and are usually issued alongside tvOS. Apple issued the fourth developer beta for macOS 10.14.1 Mojave on Wednesday.

AppleInsider, and Apple itself, strongly advise against installing betas on "mission-critical" hardware or primary devices. Due to the potential for data loss and other possible issues, it is recommended to use a secondary or non-essential hardware for beta testing, and to make regular backups of any important data.
