Apple posts fifth macOS 10.14.6 developer beta

Last updated

Apple has moved on to yet another round for the current test cycle, providing developers with just one new build — the fifth for macOS 10.14.6 — to try out.

Builds of each operating system offered by Apple can be downloaded from the Apple Developer Center by those taking part in the testing program, along with the option to perform an over-the-air software update for devices already enrolled into the scheme. A public beta is typically made available shortly after the developer version is distributed, via the Apple Beta Software Program website.

The fifth macOS 10.14.6 beta is build number 18G78a, moving on from the fourth, build number 18G71a.

It seems macOS is the only beta release for today. Previously Apple has issued six builds of iOS 12.4, five of watchOS 5.3, and three of tvOS 12.4

No major changes have been found in any of the operating systems so far, strongly suggesting them to consist of performance improvements, bug fixes, and laying the ground work for services Apple is about to launch, such as Apple Card in iOS.

Apple is also concurrently running developer betas for milestone releases of its operating systems, set to arrive this fall. Specifically they are for iOS 13, iPadOS 13, tvOS 13, watchOS 6 and macOS 10.15 Catalina.

Both AppleInsider and Apple strongly suggest users avoid installing betas on to "mission-critical" or primary devices, due to the potential for data loss or other issues. Instead, the recommendation is to install betas onto secondary or non-essential devices, and to ensure there are sufficient backups of important data before making any major changes.
