Apple is introducing a number of new Safari features that will debut across macOS, iPadOS, and iOS — including new tab groups and support for extensions on mobile

Later in 2021, Apple is adding a new way to reduce tab clutter on macOS Monterey. Not only are tabs more lightweight and compact than before, but Apple is also introducing new tab groups that will cut down on cluttered browsers and allow users to store specific tabs together.

Those redesigned tabs and tab groups are also coming to iPadOS. Apple's system will allow for instant and easy syncing between devices, as well.

Tab groups are also coming to iOS, though Safari is also getting a few mobile-specific updates. A new tab bar will appear at the bottom of the screen, allowing users to easily access tabs with their thumb. Users can also swipe between tabs, or swipe up to see tabs in a grid view.

In addition, Apple also announced that it would be bringing Safari extensions to iPhone and iPad for the first time. Code will be shared with existing Safari extensions, which will make it easier for developers to create ones for iPadOS and iOS.
