Following the second season premiere of Apple TV+ original "Truth Be Told," the show's cast and crew discuss the conflicts and struggles portrayed in coming episodes.
In a "featurette" titled "Damaged," executive producer and series lead Octavia Spencer and actors Kate Hudson, Christopher Backus, Alona Tal, Mekhi Phifer, David Lyons and Ron Cephas Jones go beyond the storyline to discuss the motivations, emotions and intertwining relationships that drive the show's characters.
Also offering their take are executive producer Lauren Levy-Neustadter and executive producer and writer Nichelle Tramble Spellman.
"Everyone's dealing with something that they're carrying in their life that's either holding them back or has held them back or that they're still deeply struggling with," Hudson says.
The second season revolves around true crime podcaster Poppy (Spencer) and her childhood friend Micah (Hudson) as the pair investigate the murder of Micah's husband, Josh. The central characters are forced to come to terms with past trauma and unearth secrets as the season progresses, testing their friendship.
"In trying to find out what happened to Joshua, we find out more about this deep love that these women have for each other that's also hiding a lot of secrets," Spellman says.
"Truth Be Told" is produced by Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine in cooperation with Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content, and is among a slate of original shows that serve as the bedrock of Apple's streaming service. The series won an NAACP Image Award for its first season in 2020.
Season two premiered on Apple TV+ on Aug. 20, with new episodes set to arrive every Friday.
