Apple issues third developer beta of macOS Monterey 12.1

Apple has moved on to its third round of testing for macOS Monterey 12.1, with developer beta testers able to try out the third build of the operating system.

Developers taking part in the test program can download the latest build via the Apple Developer Center, or as an over-the-air update on enrolled devices. Participants in the public Apple Beta Software Program can typically expect a similar beta update to be issued shortly after the developer version.

The third beta for this particular version arrives after the second, which landed on November 9. The first beta for macOS Monterey 12.1 arrived on October 28.

The initial beta included SharePlay, a FaceTime feature that lets users watch video or listen to music within the same call. There was also support for the AMD Radeon 6600XT and fixes for the App Store and SwiftUI.

AppleInsider, and Apple itself, strongly suggest users avoid installing betas on to "mission-critical" or primary devices, due to the potential for data loss or other issues. It is instead recommended to install betas onto secondary or non-essential devices, and to ensure there are sufficient backups of important data beforehand.
