Schlage unveils first WiFi deadblock smart lock with Apple Home Key support

The tap to unlock feature on the Schlage Encode Plus.

Schlage at CES 2022 has unveiled the Encode Plus Smart WiFi Deadbolt, the first consumer smart lock compatible with Apple Home Key.

The Schlage Encode Plus is a full-featured smart lock that supports remote locking and unlocking, temporary or recurring access codes, and Alexa or Google Assistant voice commands. However, the standout feature is Home Key support.

Home Key is a new HomeKit feature, introduced in iOS 15, that allows users to store smart lock "keys" in Apple Wallet. Once a key is stored in Wallet, users simply need to tap their iPhone or Apple Watch on a smart lock to open it.

The Encode Plus also supports Power Reserve capability, which allows for door unlocking even if an iPhone needs to be charged. Schlage says the feature may allow an iPhone to tap to unlock "for up to five hours after [an] iPhone battery runs out."

Other features of the Schlage Encode Plus include the ability to see when temporary or permanent access codes have been used and enable push notifications to see door unlock and lock status. It's compatible with both iOS devices and Android devices via the Schlage Home app.

The Schlage Encode Plus Smart WiFi Deadbolt will retail for $299.99 and will become available later in Spring 2022.
