Sabrent announces new Thunderbolt CFexpress card reader

Sabrent CFexpress Type B card reader

Last updated

Sabrent announced two new card readers on Wednesday, debuting a CFexpress card reader connecting to the Mac via Thunderbolt.

The first device is a dual-slot UHS-II SDXC and microSD 4.0 card reader. This can deliver speeds of up to 312MBps simultaneously through each slot. It comes with a built-in six-inch USB 3.2 Type-C cable that supports 5Gbps speeds.

Each slot for SD and microSD cards, as well as the USB-C cable, is fully backwards compatible. This card reader requires macOS Monterey 12 or later.

Also announced on Wednesday is a CFexpress Type B card reader with a Thunderbolt 3 port. Sabrent already has a USB-C CFexpress reader, with read and write speeds limited to 10 gigabits per second — a limitation Thunderbolt 3 does not have.

The products aren't available for sale yet, and Sabrent doesn't list the price for either one. However, B&H lists the dual-slot device for $34.99.
