GE's Cync smart light line massively expands at CES 2023

During CES 2023, GE's Cync smart light line grew quite a bit with several newly available options and new updates on Matter support.

The headlining news from Cync this year includes new rope lights that can be transformed into any shape you'd like, hexagon-shaped wall panels similar to Nanoleaf, and A19 and BR30 smart bulbs.

These are all part of Cyncs new Dynamic Effects lineup that are capable of tuning to 16 million colors, various shades of white, and can emulate various lighting effects. They have on-device music syncing and can show multiple colors at once.

Even the A19 and BR30 smart bulbs can show multiple colors with each able to show up to four at once and are indecently addressable via the Cync app.

There are new Wafer Downlights coming in Q3 of this year and the Cync app adds direct integration with Schlage Encode smart locks.

Most of the new Dynamic Effects products are launching in March and prices start at $19.99 for the A19 and top out at $199.99 for a 10-pack of the hexagonal wall panels. The rope lights run $79.99 and $119.99 for the 10-inch and 16-inch models respectively.

Support for Matter

Cync's products work primarily over Bluetooth mesh, making them incompatible with Matter as it is IP-based. Some products will be compatible though. The company's affordable A19 Cync Full Color Direct Connect Smart Bulb and its smart plug will both get updates to work with Matter.

None of the company's products work natively with Apple Home and rely on the company's native app instead. Matter support will bring the products into Apple's Home app.

Other products — including the new rope lights and light panels — will not be getting updated to Matter but Cync says other new Matter-ready products will debut later this year.
