Final Cut Pro & Logic Pro on iPad, iPhone 15 Pro designs, AI at Google I/O

Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro officially come to iPad, hands-on with iPhone 15 and 15 Pro dummy models, AI's prominent role at Google I/O, and what it means for WWDC — all on the AppleInsider Podcast.

Apple officially announced that Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro are coming to the iPad on May 23 with a subscription model. Your hosts discuss how this might affect the Mac versions of the apps and what it means for the ill-fated Analyst941.

Andrew got to go hands-on with some dummy models of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro. These tend to be highly accurate models used by case makers prior to mass production.

Google I/O was held and the phrase "AI" was used to describe most of the technologies on display at the event. While Wesley grows tired of this random and unspecific use of the buzzword, Stephen wonders what Apple will reveal during WWDC, if anything, to compete.

The podcast concludes with more thoughts on idealizing photos with algorithms, Google calling out Apple on RCS, and how meh foldables feel after years of hype.

Final Cut and logic were released ahead of wwdc in order to minimize the impact on wwdc hardware announcements, but also to try to normalize the fact that Apple, despite Steve Jobs’ protests against such a software model. It’s s rip off and Steve always pointed that out. You are now renting your software instead of owning it. Snd that sucks.

It would have been a good software surprise to launch with the rumored headset that no one really wants. But then it would also betray the reason for the headset to exist - selling software - and perhaps hardware subscriptions. The first is bad enough. But a hardware subscription (“oh. We HAVE to do it in order to make it not so expensive!”) would be taking a dump on customers. So long as there is an option to purchase outright, it’s fine. But not if the price id do high that you’re pushed to s subscription.

Nothing seems to be honest anymore. Hope I’m wrong.
