'Assassin's Creed Shadows' Mac release slips to February 2025

Assassin's Creed Shadows [Ubisoft]

Ubisoft is delaying Assassin's Creed Shadows' by three months, with the macOS-destined game now having its original release on February 14, 2025.

Ubisoft made a big splash in May that it will be launching a game from the Assassin's Creed franchise on Apple Silicon Macs on the Mac App Store at the same time as other platforms. Unfortunately, that game won't be making its initial release date of November 15.

In a letter to players posted to the official game X account, VP and executive producer Marc-Alexis Cote explains that the company has "made the decision to postpone the release date to February 14, 2025."

The reasoning for the delay is due to the ambitious nature of the game.

"We realize we need more time to polish and refine the experience, pushing further some of our key features," the letter explains.

According to a notice of a change of financial targets for the 2024-2025 financial year released on Wednesday, part of this is due to "the learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release." The game will also depart from the usual season pass model that previous releases used for downloadable content.

Assassin's Creed Shadows takes the franchise to Japan, with the protagonists being a shinobi assassin and a legendary samurai. With a dual-character approach, players will be able to switch between stealth and combat-oriented missions across the Japanese landscapes.

Preorders for the game with seasonal passes pre-paid will be refunded, and future preorders will also get the first expansion for the game for free. It is unclear when the refunds will be implemented, though it is currently still listed on the Mac App Store as arriving in November for $69.99.
