Apple Ginza reopens on September 26, returning to its original home with a four-story design that blends modern features and sustainable architecture.

Apple Ginza has an interesting history; the store first opened in 2003. Not only was it the first Apple store to open in Japan, it was the first to open outside of the U.S.

In 2022, the original Apple Ginza was demolished, and the store was relocated to an innovative 12-story building. However, that move has only lasted three years.

Now, Apple Ginza has returned home to its original location. It boasts a new, four-story design that combines Apple's products, services, and experiences under one roof.

"Apple Ginza holds a special place in our hearts as our very first Retail store outside the U.S., and its opening more than 20 years ago marked a new chapter in how we connect with our customers around the world," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "This reopening is another incredible milestone on our journey here in Japan, and a symbol of our strong ties to customers and communities across the country.

"We couldn't be more excited to open the doors to this beautifully redesigned space, share our latest products, and build on the incredible history we share."

Apple Ginza operates entirely on renewable energy. The building uses a double-skin glass facade with louvers to manage light and temperature.

The design incorporates regionally sourced materials and wooden paneling that references Japanese architecture. Each floor is arranged to maximize natural light.

Balcony-style spaces overlook the streets of Ginza. The store also includes varied seating, Genius Bar, and areas for personalized setup.

To celebrate the reopening, Apple Ginza will hold a special Today at Apple Spotlight session. The session, in collaboration with Japanese supergroup Number_i, will explore Spatial Audio and spatial video through their single, "U.M.A."
