Apple Ginza will soon close the temporary location that it has occupied for years, and return to the Tokyo site where it was first opened back in 2003.

For three years, Apple Ginza has been a eco-friendly, boutique-style store which AppleInsider visited in 2023. But that store was officially a temporary one, established when Apple Ginza's original site was scheduled for demolition.

Now Apple has announced that the store is to relocate to a new building on the original site, describing the move (in translation), as "a new story with you."

"There will be many surprises and emotions from now on," continues the announcement on the new Apple Ginza site, " In order to spin with everyone."

"Soon, Apple Ginza will be reborn... the location is the Sagusa Building in Ginza 3-chome," it says. "Let's meet again at the usual place."

Apple has not revealed an opening date. However, the website of the temporary Apple Ginza store says that one will be closing on September 22.

As Apple now most often does, it has created a store-specific version of its logo, which is also available as downloadable wallpaper. Depending on the device you use, it will automatically download this "a small gift," in the right version for a Mac, iPhone, or iPad.

Apple Ginza is also offering a curated selection of related apps, music, books, games, TV, and podcasts. Included is an Apple Music playlist called "Stories Continue with Music in Ginza," although note that it isn't available to play in all territories.

Apple Ginza originally opened in 2003, and was significant because it was the first-ever Apple Store outside the US. Then later the temporary Apple Ginza was notable for being purpose-built to new standards that meant it was made to withstand Tokyo's regular earthquakes.
