Apple is said to be continuing work on a next-generation Apple Vision Pro in parallel with smart glasses, but it won't launch until 2028 or 2029.

Rumors of a second generation Apple Vision Pro have been circulating practically since the first model came out. Unsurprisingly, those rumors were a wishlist with the device being lighter, slimmer, and of course also have a reduced price.

Now according to Bloomberg, all of these are being worked on. However, to fit with its previous report that Apple had given up on the headset, this new claim says Apple Vision Pro is on ice.

It's hard to get around the inconsistency in this report. Development is on ice until such time as development leads Apple to a slimmer, lighter, lower-cost model.

But then the report does also have a timescale for all of this to change. While it doesn't appear to be based on any specific information, the report speculates that the earliest Apple Vision Pro 2 will launch is either late 2028 or 2029.

Back in 2023, report writer Mark Gurman was predicting a low-cost "Apple Vision" (without the Pro) would debut in late 2025. In November 2024, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed the lower-cost model was delayed to "beyond 2027."

At times, though, Apple has been said to be working on at least three different headsets. It's not clear which the latest report is referring to.

But then this latest report is more focused on smart glasses, which it says Apple is now concentrating its efforts toward.
