Apple will certainly release a competitor to Meta's new Ray-Ban glasses, but the latest rumors say glasses with a screen won't arrive with the first version of the Apple Glass.

It's previously been reported that Apple was shifting priorities away from the Apple Vision Pro to the lighter Apple Glass spectacles, specifically to compete with Meta's latest release. Other reports backing up this claim predicted that the glasses will appear in late 2026 or early 2027.

Now according to Bloomberg, the first version of the lightweight glasses may be announced in 2026, but won't be released until 2027 in an Apple Silicon-like rollout giving developers time to adapt. The report, though, also confirms that the first version will not feature an AR display.

What the report describes as a follow-up device, will.

There are no further details about this second generation model, and no mention of a possible release date. Previous reports have suggested that the AR display in that second generation product may be incorporated into one lens.

This non-AR version has been rumored before, with a report that Apple is developing an Apple Silicon processor especially for it. Said to be based on the Apple Silicon used in the Apple Watch, the processor would enable features such as handling phone calls, fulfilling Siri requests, and taking photographs.
