Apple and Spectrum have partnered to stream a selection of live Lakers basketball games during the 2025-26 season in Apple Immersive 180-degree video for Apple Vision Pro owners.
When Apple first announced Apple Vision Pro, sports fans began daydreaming about the potential of immersive video and live events. Up to this point, Apple has only been able to provide short clips of NFL and MLS games well after the fact, until now.
According to a wider announcement from Spectrum, Apple has partnered with them to bring select Lakers games to Apple Vision Pro. These will be provided via the Apple Immersive format, which is the 180-degree video used in Apple's immersive content.
The games will be broadcast via streams of up to 150 Mbps for paid subscribers. Either Spectrum SportsNet subscribers or Spectrum Internet customers in Lakers' territory can access the stream via the Spectrum SportsNet app.
The full game replay and select highlights will also be available in the Apple Immersive format on-demand via the Spectrum SportsNet app. Apple hasn't attempted a live stream feature for immersive content before, but it is possible, and has been done by third parties.
However, there is no word on how much fidelity the content will have while streamed. Generally, Apple Immersive shows like Wild are shot in 8k and shown with incredible detail — a live-streamed game may have difficulty nailing that.
Interestingly, Apple hasn't attempted live Apple Immersive video streams with its own sports options like MLB or MLS. Perhaps it is offering the Spectrum collaboration first as a test bed to determine how to get it right itself.
There is no word on when the first game will be streamed in Apple Immersive format. The regular NBA season begins on October 21, and the Lakers play the Warriors at 10 p.m. EST.
