Steve Jobs will represent California as one of the $1 coins minted for the 2026 American Innovation collection, and it will have an inscription of "Make Something Wonderful."
Apple's influence on Silicon Valley and tech is far-reaching, and its story represents that of the classic American dream. So, Steve Jobs continues to be celebrated as one of the biggest innovators of our time, and his legacy is about to be celebrated again via the US Mint.
The United States Mint put out a press release sharing which coins would be added to the growing American Innovation series that began in 2018. The coin for California will feature Steve Jobs in front of a landscape of oak-covered hills.
The gold $1 coin was designed by Elana Hagler and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. It was revealed alongside coins for Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.
The inscription around the coin's edge will read Steve Jobs and Make Something Wonderful.
The series was authorized by Public Law 115-197 and is meant to honor American innovation and pioneering efforts of individuals or groups. A coin is being minted for each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the five US territories.
Steve Jobs is an obvious choice for California. His father was a Syrian immigrant, he was placed up for adoption, started a company in a garage, was ultimately ousted, then returned to herald an era that would result in Apple becoming the most rich and popular consumer company in the world.
Coins can be purchased directly from the US Mint website once they are released. A set including the Steve Jobs coin and the other coins announced will cost around $30, while a coin roll of 25 Steve Jobs coins will cost $36.25.
