On this week's episode of the HomeKit Insider podcast, your hosts talk about Apple's branding refresh for Apple TV, a few new Sonos updates, Eve's 10 year anniversary, TP-Link's work on the future Wi-Fi 8, and more!
The big talk this week was with Apple TV. We didn't get the hardware we were hoping for, but there was a slew of other changes to discuss.
First up, Apple announced a new branding overhaul, though we may not have seen the fruits of that labor as of yet. So far, all we know is that Apple dropped the "+" from its subscription service's name and introduced a colorful new logo in the beta of iOS 26.1.
This raises all sorts of questions we discuss on the show, such as whether Apple will rename its new hardware streaming box and what other changes are in store.
Additionally, it announced several new partnerships.
Apple TV is now the home to F1 after striking a 5-year agreement. It also launched a new bundle for both Apple TV and Peacock subscribers, saving up to 35% for Apple One users and 30% for monthly subscribers.
Finally, MLS playoffs are free — with no MLS Season Pass required.
Outside of Apple TV, a new Vision Pro, MacBook Pro, and iPad Pro were all announced with new M5 chips on the inside. For the smart home, the new iPad Pro supports Thread for the first time with Apple's N1 networking chip.
Outside of Apple, Sonos had several updates over the last few weeks. It introduced TruePlay support for iPhone 17 models and it brought back the beloved queue position feature with app updates.
Eve is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. We walk back down memory lane, looking at the brand's launch and changes over the years, culminating in the current anniversary sale.
Flic has a new update to its app too, coinciding with the launch of the Flic Duo. This button, first announced at CES 2025, has two buttons, a gyroscope, and more and works with Apple Home and Matter.
Wrapping things up, TP-Link has announced progress on its work on Wi-Fi 8. It is the first company to demonstrate the actual use of Wi-Fi 8 ahead of the new standard and the new Matter certification program.
